Your workstation is one of your most important business tools.

Pick the right one, and you’ll experience incredible efficiency and productivity.

On the other hand, make the wrong choice, and you’ll want to drop-kick it across the office (which, no matter how you feel about your device, we definitely don’t recommend!).

So, how do you choose a device when there are so many options?

People used to start with Mac vs PC. And, to be fair, there used to be some decent reasons why you’d choose a Mac over a PC.

However, times have changed, and when it comes to running powerful creative software, Mac isn’t always the way to go. There are now a host of PC options that perform the same (or better).

One of these is HP with their new ZBook Create G7. Sleek, powerful and highly spec’d – it comes out ahead in most Mac vs HP categories.

But, before we start gushing over the latest tech, let’s go right back to where you should start when it comes to picking the device for you.

What are you going to use it for?

It’s all very well to rush out and by the latest laptop. However, if you haven’t figured out what you’ll be predominantly using it for, you probably won’t end up making a good choice.

  • Do you need to create and edit incredible things – such as photos, videos or designs?
  • Will it be used more for work than play?
  • Is portability and battery performance an non-negotiable?

Where are you going to store your stuff?

If you’re dealing with large files, where are they going to go?

If you want to step into the future, then cloud storage is the way to go.

There are clever ways to store your documents and files in the cloud, accessible whenever you need them, without taking up too much space on your laptop.

In fact, you might already be utilising the cloud (such as M365 Sharepoint) to store business files.

Needing less storage on your device means you can make gains in other areas – like a lighter device with greater portability.

Do you need performance?

To give you an example, you’ll want deeper blacks, brighter whites, and the full spectrum (billions!)  so everything you do is accurate as possible.

What screen size do you like to work on? Does it need to be a touchscreen?

Do you work on the go or prefer to have a permanent setup at the office?
